Judging by the pyro flows in that image, that’s not Kilauea. Edit, I see others in the tweet pointed that out.

Interesting note, tomorrow is the 38th anniversary of Mt St Helens eruption.

Good catch. Changed the pic

I always remember May 18. I watched St Helens erupt from my front yard on that day. I was out playing and we could see the cloud rising. My mom freaked.

I’m too young to remember the event, but I remember when I was a little kid in eastern WA in the early-mid 80s, there was still a substantial amount of ash around, especially on the roadside, it looked like light grey snow. I have some relatives who lived in Yakima at the time, and they have some cool pics.

I bet they have some good pics. Those folks got hammered. I was in Maple Valley, SE of Seattle. My dad built our house on a hill with an amazing view of Rainier. That meant we also had a pretty good view of St Helens when it went up.

I bet it was something. I have seen pics from Seattle of the eruptions later that month, and they are shocking.

At the time, my aunt and uncle lived just east of Yakima, with a clear view to the east. They took some time lapse pics of the advancing cloud. I was mildly obsessed with the event when I was a kid, and have visited numerous times. Going again with some oppos on Saturday.

Cool stuff, I am familiar with that one. I actually spent part of my childhood there, too - I think they had it worse than Yakima. I am not sure how this would work today, as cars have more complex air intake systems.

This would be hell for a clean car nut like me:

Cool looking skies that day, too:
